Pink is one of my favorite colours. I have a pink bicycle, pink roller-skates, play a pink guitar, run in pink sneakers, and wear a pink sapphire! More importantly, pink is the colour of hope. It is also the colour associated with Cancer awareness.

     Being born and raised in the Niagara region, I knew that Cancer was a growing epidemic and concern. We all know someone who is somehow affected by this disease. A dear friend since childhood was diagnosed with Cancer two years ago. I wanted to do something to help. I was able to give her hope, love and support, but I wanted to do more.

     Wine is something that I have always had a passion and love for. I studied wine after high school and quickly worked in the Niagara wine industry. Wine symbolizes good life, good friends, and culture. In the bible wine is used to symbolize life. Many years ago it was used for health remedies. So I asked myself “Why couldn’t wine be used today for that same purpose?”……

     In early November I approached the Hernder family with the idea to make a wine that could make a difference. A rose, which was pink in colour but also named “Pink” like the ribbon, was created. It would be from the wine I made during my first vintage with the winery.

The Hernder Picasso Foundation

This foundation is a non-profit organization, which was created to

support the Niagara Community.  For every bottle of “Pink” sold, $3.00

will go to the foundation. The monies raised will then be donated to the new

Niagara Cancer Centre. Proceeds will also be made available for wigs for

those who lost their hair during therapy.
